Conag Lake, a large freshwater lake of 400 square kilometers, is like a glittering blue pearl in the huge Northern Tibet Grassland. The altitude of the Conag Lake Train Station is 4,594 meters. Lying between the Kunlun Mountains and the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, Conag Lake is the world’s highest freshwater lake at an elevation of 4,594 meters.
Located 20 kilometers southwest of Amdo County, Conag Lake is pooled together by all the rivers from southern Tanggula Mountains, and it is the source of the Nujiang River and Nagchu River. It is respected by the local people as a holy lake.
As it is west to the Qinghai-Tibet railway, passengers can see it through the windows on the right side on the train to Lhasa, whereas through the windows on the left side on the train from Lhasa. And the shortest distance between the railway and the lake is just 20 meters.
